Today's agenda featured a trip to the Grande Sertão Veredas National Park. Before heading out, I got up early and went up to the tower to see the sunrise and look for birds such as this buff-necked ibis.

As we started out on the drive to the national park, we stopped to watch some peach-fronted parakeets.
We saw many different birds. I think they are a cattle tyrant,

a rufous-collared sparrow,

a cinnamon tanager,

a hummingbird, possibly a black jacobin.
?

chapada flycatcher

a hawk (possible roadside hawk)
and a chalk-browed mockingbird

.
We saw evidence that a jaguar had passed through the night before.

We passed by pastures of cows that were part of the Pousada Trijuncao.

A red-legged seriema strutted past.

A white-rumped monjita perched on a wire fence.

A vulture soared overhead.

A northern-crested caracara took off from its perch.
We reached the official entrance to the park.

Once in the park, we saw more chalk-browed mockingbirds.

We got out to admire a patch of Paepalanthus.
Some ibis flew above us as we looked at the flowers.
