We had a 5 hour drive to Pousada Trijuncao. We checked in, had lunch and a little time to rest. Then we were off with Oncafari to see the maned wolf. The Cerrado is the Brazilian Savannah, it is a different biome than the wetlands of the Pantanal or the rainforest of the Amazon. (Look closely in the background and you can just make out two blue and green macaws).
It is rare to see giant anteaters here, but we did see evidence of their passing with a torn up termite mound.
Just like with the jaguars, they used a special antenna to track the radio signals from the collars.
We were lucky and got a good view of Barron – the male maned wolf. He is usually pretty shy, but seemed more comfortable today, spending some time in open grassland instead of just in the bushes.
Can you spot him? It took me a while when the guide first pointed him out.
At dinner we tried local fruit juices. They have a special kind of acai berry that only grows here. It was very good. The other fruit juice wasn’t as good, the taste was a little strange. I had the Romeo and Juliet for dessert – a traditional Brazilian dessert with cheese, guava jelly and peanuts.
