Today we did a tour of Freemantle and Perth and a ferry ride on the Swan River. The highlight for me were the lorikeets at King's Park and the little corellas I spied in a tree by the beach at our first stop.
While the other passengers, wandered on the beach or visited a coffee shop, I searched in the trees for birds and lucked out and found the little corellas. At first, I just spied a pair of them hidden in the branches.
Then, I rushed to the bus to get my digital SLR camera. When I returned, I was rewarded with a group of four out in the front of the tree.
We stopped at King's Park next. I enjoyed looking at the different flowers in the botanic gardens.
I looked up and saw some lorikeets fly into the gum tree in front of me to feed on its spiky white blossoms.
As we drove to the ferry, we passed by several statues that blended into the city scene. They showed regular people going about their day - as they would have in the early days of Perth.
We boarded the ferry and rode it back to Freemantle, just a few blocks from our ship (although we still were required to ride the bus back to the ship). The ferry ride was relaxing. We passed by city buildings, houses built along the river, a yacht club with a black swan insignia, and woods and rocky shoreline. We saw people enjoying their time by the river and ended our ride passing by our own cruise ship, Zuiderdam.
Our friends, Cathy and Gary, took a different ferry to Rottsnest Island to see the quokkas. I was a bit envious and definitely have it on my list of things to do if I return to Perth.
What is the name of the fuzzy creature in the last picture?
