Today we flew over the Namib Desert once again on our way back to the ship in Walvis Bay.
We bid farewell to Little Kulala this morning, taking one last look at our cabin and the wonderful views from the lodge.
As we ate our final breakfast, we watched as springbok, pied crows, and doves drank from the waterhole.
We had our final drive with Gabriel who took us to the airstrip where our pilot from the first flight was there to meet us.
As we flew over the desert once again, I was once again struck by how accurate the term "sand sea" was for the Sossusvlei. From the sky, the dunes looked just like waves. As we passed beyond the Sossusvlei, the desert was still beautiful. At one point, clouds hovered over the desert casting shadows on the sands below. As we neared Walvis Bay, we again saw signs of civilization with small clusters of buildings below. After a little over an hour, we landed at the small Walvis Bay airport.
We drove back to the ship, passing by dunes, a pond with flamingos and the small port town of Walvis Bay.
Back on the ship, we unpacked and relaxed. I went out on the verandah to take some pictures of the view from the ship.
I enjoyed watching the sea gulls in the air and the water from the verandah.
I looked closer at the water and saw some little orange blobs bobbing in the water. They were jellyfish!
Before the ship could leave, immigration officials needed to clear us. They came on board to check all of our visas and passport records.
The sunset that evening was so bright and vivid over the water. The birds flying overhead were silhouetted in the changing colors of the sky.
