Sydney - Featherdale Wildlife Park and Sail Away

Updated: Feb 19, 2023

The Featherdale Wildlife Park was much less interactive than when we first visited in 2006 with our son Jordan. Back then the kangaroos and other animals roamed freely through the park and visitors could interact with the koalas as well. (You can still have your picture taken with a koala, but it now costs $30 Australian dollars for the privilege.) However, it was still amazing to see the diverse wildlife of Australia.

Some birds, like the ibis did roam free and I even spied one up in the tree feeding its young.

Featherdale in 2006 when we visited with our son, Jordan.

Also (thinking back to the Blue Mountains post), when we rode the train this year it was all enclosed, but back in 2006 it was fully open.

After about 40 minutes to explore the park, we returned to Sydney.

Soon after we arrived back at Zuiderdam, it was time for the sail away from Sydney. Once again, we sailed past the beautiful city buildings, the Sydney Bridge, and the Sydney Opera House. However, this time it was in daylight under a bright, sunny sky. As we prepared to pass under the Sydney Bridge, we were greeted by adventurers who had scaled Sydney Bridge.

As we moved slowly out of the harbor, our way was blocked by a sailing regatta. However, once underway a cruise ship can’t really stop. The pilot boats rushed from sail boat to sail boat instructing them to get out of our way. Most complied or were already on the move, but a few waited until the last minute to glide past Zuiderdam.

We ended the day with a beautiful sunset.
