April 4, 2013

Brent began his overland adventure with a trip to the Casbah that I had visited. No one draped a snake on him, so he was able to spend his time exploring the fort and enjoying the views.

He also visited the market that I visited, but likely did both while I was at the Fantasia Horse Show.

On the way to Marrakesh, they stopped for lunch and had a delicious meal served with traditional pottery.

The scenery was beautiful on the drive to Marrakesh.

Once in Marrakesh, they stopped at a factory that makes oils and cream from the argan nut. The nuts must be cracked by hand to retrieve the oil. If done by machine, the little kernels containing the oil are ruined. Argan oil is the most expensive edible oil in the world. The tree is rare and the process to extract the oil is very laborious. It takes all of the nuts produced in a year by a single tree and 15 to 20 hours to make just one liter of oil for cosmetics or 2 liters of cooking oil.

When he arrived to his hotel room, he was greeted by name on his television screen.
